TAKE FIVE FOR FAITH was developed after extensive conversations with pastors, religious educators, deacons, other pastoral ministers, and people in the pew.

Three ideas emerged from these sessions:
1. Most adult Catholics did not receive adequate religious education and formation earlier in life.
2. Most adults are too busy to regularly attend a class or read long articles or books.
3. Learners take their lessons to heart when there's a "next step" action component that applies to their own lives.

TFF is based on these premises, and on the conviction that there is a great spiritual hunger just below the surface in most adults. TFF is a product that teaches, inspires, motivates, and strengthens people in their faith. TFF offers quick, daily reflections and includes a simple action step to make the lesson one's own.

Bible Study Groups

WHY STUDY THE BIBLE?

  • To address St. David the King’s Mission Statement: "As a people of faith, we express our belief…in the study and teaching of scripture and tradition."

  • To be in accord with Pope Paul VI’s encyclical Evangelii Nuntiandi:  On Evangelism in the Modern World, "Those who are already disciples of Jesus Christ…[need] to be constantly nourished by the Word of God so that they may grow in their Christian life."

  • To adhere to The Catechism of the Catholic Church (Second Edition):  “The Church forcefully and specifically exhorts all the Christian faithful . . . to learn the surpassing knowledge of Jesus Christ, by frequent reading of the divine scriptures. Ignorance of the Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.”  #133

  • To obey our Lord Jesus Christ who said, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:3-5)

THE BIBLE’S IMPACT ON ST. DAVID THE KING PARISHIONERS

When I attended my first Young Adult Bible Study meeting, I found myself enjoying the discussion on the selected readings, and heard eye-opening interpretations from the other members of the group that I had never thought about before. It helped me understand some things that I might not have understood by myself.  It has become a great refresher of my faith, and the meetings are incredibly calming in the middle of a stressful work week. Because of Bible Study, I have thankfully grown in my relationship with God, and I encourage others who would like to do the same to join a study group. It has definitely changed my life for the better.

At first I was intimidated about joining a Bible Study.  I didn't think I was "Catholic enough.”   I am so glad I took the first step and participated.  It has been an incredible experience to read and discuss scripture together with friends old and new.  This has deepened my understanding of the events in the Bible, and has ignited a fire within me to learn more, to do better, and to share my understanding with others.  As a PREP teacher, it has helped to give my lessons more depth and excitement.  I am so looking forward to our next Bible Study.
Sheri Lagana

Scripture study with other women in my parish has been a great blessing in my life. I am amazed at the insights offered by members of my group as we analyze a passage together. We read the same passages, but God speaks to us so individually. This has been a beautiful way for me to know parishioners at a deeper level and to sense God working toward the coming of His Kingdom. Each season I look forward to having more time to spend with the women who are part of my St. David the King family.

I'd been yearning to study the Bible with others for many years after trying to read it on my own and just not feeling fulfilled.  Bible Study has had a great impact on my life, and I am so grateful for this opportunity.  Our recent study helped me to understand God's faithfulness and protection not only for the people in the stories, but for us today.  I hear how God works in the lives of others as I listen to their faith sharing.  How good to know God is alive and working in us today!  Studying the Bible helps me to recognize God in my life and listen for Him. I am getting so much out of Bible study that I now attend two Bible Study groups each week!
