The Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) is the process through which adults are welcomed into the Catholic Church and receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist. The OCIA is a journey of faith that involves study, reflection, prayer, and participation in the life of the parish community. It is a time for learning about the Catholic faith, building relationships with other Catholics, and developing the spiritual practices necessary for a full, active life in the Church.
The sacraments of initiation are typically celebrated each year at the Easter Vigil (the night before Easter Sunday), though in some cases, they may be celebrated at other times depending on the needs of the individual. For those who have already been baptized Catholic but have not yet received the sacrament of Confirmation, the OCIA process may be the right path to complete your sacraments of initiation. In these cases, you will receive the sacrament of Confirmation at the Pentecost Vigil, rather than at the Easter Vigil.
We welcome adults who are interested in exploring the Catholic faith at any time during the year. There is no single program or set timeline for preparation, as we recognize that each person’s journey is unique. Whether you are coming from a different Christian tradition, have never been baptized, or are seeking to complete your sacraments, the OCIA process is tailored to meet your individual needs and background.
