In the Church’s Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick, it is Jesus, through the ministry of the priest, who touches the sick to heal them from sin—and sometimes even from physical ailments. His healings were signs of the arrival of the Kingdom of God and point to His plan to conquer sin and death through His Passion, Death, and Resurrection.
When the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick is administered, the hoped-for effect is that, if it is God’s will, the person may experience physical healing. However, even if physical healing does not occur, the primary grace of the Sacrament is spiritual healing. The sick person receives the Holy Spirit’s gift of peace and courage to endure the challenges of serious illness or the frailty of old age.
If you are facing illness, an upcoming surgery, or preparing for the end of life, it is encouraged that you receive the Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick. This sacrament provides not only physical healing, but spiritual strength and comfort in times of need. The Rite of Anointing teaches that there is no need to wait until a person is at the point of death to receive this Sacrament. A careful judgment about the seriousness of the illness is sufficient.
If you would like to receive the Anointing of the Sick, please call the parish office to schedule a time, or speak with Fr. Jason / Fr. Tim after Mass. If this is an emergency request for the sacrament please call our emergency line at (915) 877-0011.
