Service & Social (Young Adult Ministry)

On Saturday, June 1st join St. David the King and the Diocese of Trenton in participating in the Service & Social. It will be a casual day for Young Adults to build community and put their faith into action by serving those in need. The day will begin at 9:00 AM at Vincent’s Legacy in Wall, New Jersey (2201 Marconi Road (InfoAge/former Camp Evans site), Wall Township, 07719). Please enter through main gates, turn right at the “T” intersection, follow road around a few bends, Warehouse #9037D will be on your left, directly across from the Brookdale Community College parking lot. Our day will end at 2:00 PM.

This is a great opportunity to connect with other young adults from our Diocese and use our gifts and talents to serve God and make a difference in the community!

Part of our day will be delivering furniture and home goods to families in need that have recently acquired housing. We will also pick up donations and help organize and clean them, etc. So, close toed shoes are required. Also, I recommend bringing water to stay hydrated! We will need to car pool from the warehouse to the locations we will serve. If you are willing to drive please let me know! Be prepared for the weather, dress for the possibility of getting dirty, and be open to doing whatever task needs to be done!

Pizza will be provided for lunch. (If you have special dietary needs, please bring your own lunch).

If you have any additional questions, please contact Matthew Simms (609-275-7111 (ext. 202) | msimms@stdavidtheking.com).

Piece It Together – Life Night (Youth Ministry)

Sunday – May 5th from 5:00 – 6:30

This Life Night helps teens see how the Old Testament fits into the larger story of salvation history. The session begins with assembling simple floor puzzles within small groups. Just when teens think the activity is too simple, there is an unexpected twist. The combined Proclaim and Break sections are presented in collaboration between a teacher and a storyteller, with content presentation alternating between upfront teaching and Connect Group small group processes. The session concludes with a reflection on our personal pieces of the puzzle. This is a great Life Night to help teens learn more about the Old Testament so they can better know God’s love for them.

Steubenville Youth Conference

This summer, St. David the King’s Youth Ministry will bring a group of 10 high schoolers to the Steubenville Youth Conference in Steubenville, Ohio. For those that don’t know, Steubenville is high-energy Youth Conference where thousands of teens are invited to encounter Jesus Christ through dynamic speakers, engaging music, the Sacraments, small group discussions and fellowship with other teens. I can personally attest to the transformative nature of the Conferences as it was the place where I decided to make my faith my own, finally interiorizing the faith my parents passed down to me. I invite you to attend the Steubenville Youth Conference this summer and see your faith grow in ways you never imagined.

The game starts at 6:40 PM, but we will tailgate before the game in M Lot (see Phillies Parking Map). If you plan on coming late, not to worry! We can send you your ticket to park and enter the stadium. Depending on availability and pricing, we will sit in either the first or second deck.

The cost for this event is $50 (cash or check dropped off to the Front Office). This covers your ticket and a lite pre-game dinner (i.e., sandwiches from Wawa). Feel free to bring any adult beverages for the tailgate ahead of time. The Church will not provide additional food inside the ballpark (reminder that Citizens Bank Park is a cashless venue). Register on Flocknote before April 12th.

Youth Ministry – In Sense Inc. Life Night

This Life Night explores questions about Sacred Scripture and encourages evangelization through Scripture in fun and relatable ways. The content of this session introduces the Church’s interpretation of Scripture through different senses. The engaging content keeps teens interested and increases their desire to learn more. Even your most spiritually mature and theologically well-educated teens are sure to take something from this robust Life Night.

The goal of this Life Night is to answer common questions about Sacred Scripture and give teens practical ways to incorporate Scripture into their daily lives.

Parish Book Club Conversations: Great American Prophets

On Tuesday evenings in April and May, we’ll have a parish book club focused on Daniel Cosacchi’s Great American Prophets: Pope Francis’s Models of Christian Life. Dr. Cosacchi is VP of Mission and Ministry at the University of Scranton, and was our Lenten Mission speaker in March.

Deacon Tom Baker will be the conversation leader. The meetings are scheduled for April 16, 23, 30 and May 7 and 14 at 7:00 PM, and they will last one hour. We will meet in person in the Spiritual Reading Room. Registration is limited to 14 people; if there is interest, we’ll form a second group at another time.

Participants will be asked to purchase the book in advance (St. David the King still has a few extra copies!) of the first meeting and read the introduction and Chapter One.
